Freed from requiring major off-pavement ability, Audi was able to pull weight out of the Q7\u2019s MLB II body structure, suspension, and even its transmission. A mix of high- and ultra-high-strength steel comprises the lion\u2019s share of the SUV\u2019s body-in-white; using aluminum most everywhere else\u2014the fenders, hood, doors, and the tailgate\u2014means the basic vehicle has shed 209 pounds. A further 221 pounds was pulled out of the Q7\u2019s suspension, which switches from front control arms to multiple links at all four corners and is made almost entirely from aluminum and high-strength steel.<\/p>\n

Since\u00a0<\/span>the mid-engine 4C\u00a0<\/span>already has a superstiff carbon-fiber monocoque, no weighty structural bracings or modifications were required to change the coupe into a convertible. It also doesn\u2019t hurt that the Spider is actually more of a targa reminiscent of the transcendent\u00a0<\/span>Lotus Elise. According to its maker, the Spider weighs just 22 pounds more than the coupe, which will still leave it on the good side of 2500 pounds according to our scales. (The two coupes we\u2019ve tested rang in at 2471 and 2464 pounds.)<\/p>\n

As one of the more attractive vehicles on sale today, the\u00a0<\/span>BMW 6-series certainly does not need work. But industry custom dictates that it\u2019s time for a midcycle refresh, and so BMW tasked its designers with coming up with a few ideas for the 2015 model year. The results prove that it was difficult to improve upon its near-perfect shape. The changes are subtle: BMW removed one vertical slat (nine remain) from its signature kidney grilles, full-LED headlights are now standard, and the fog lights feature three distinct LED units. Otherwise, there are a few new colors and wheel choices. Like we said, it\u2019s a subtle job.<\/p>\n

Every car provides inspiration for how we will analyze and review it, be that screaming down Virginia International Raceway\u2019s back straight at triple-digit speeds, assaulting our nasal passages with scents of fine leather and wood, or packing it full of kids and camping gear. The light-bulb moment for the 2016 Cadillac CTS-V came early in a presentation by chief engineer and not\u2013Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Roma, when a slide comparing the CTS-V\u2019s specs with those of its German competition lit up the screen with an absolutely ridiculous top-speed claim: 200 mph.<\/p>\n

Bad news for EV1 conspiracy theorists: GM has unveiled a new, dedicated electric vehicle, the Chevrolet Bolt, which will arrive in two years. The Bolt, which promises 200 miles of range and which will sell for roughly $38,000 before tax credits, could also prove to be a bummer for the upcoming Tesla Model 3 and the\u00a0<\/span>BMW i3. Whizzing past us to the stage, the Bolt EV concept almost had us thinking we\u2019d arrived at the BMW stand, right down to its Tang-orange paint, which could have been lifted from\u00a0<\/span>the i3 concept\u00a0<\/span>of 2012.

Utilizing the same twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 found in the C400, the C450 extracts extra power mainly by increasing the turbo boost pressure. But there are further welcome changes: The seven-speed torque-converter automatic shifts more quickly, and in manual mode there are no automatic shifts\u2014not even at kickdown or redline. The exhaust system operates with less back pressure, which adds a noticeable exhaust rumble and enhances power. While these changes are good news for the ambitious driver, we believe that the C450 AMG\u2014which hits the American market this fall\u2014is still a far cry from the ultra-high-performance AMG C63.
